Warning: "Strobist" Flashes
Just a quick heads-up: if you see a company selling "Strobist" branded flashes, etc., they are probably just using the site's name to try to get into your pants.
There is no such thing as a Strobist-brand flashes. Heck, even the LumoPro LP180, while highly recommended, is not a Strobist-branded flash.
There is some gear that is specifically recommended by the site, including some gear and/or kits in which I was involved in the design and/or selection. These sellers will generally ping the association via the use of Strobist® with a trademark symbol, and you have probably heard mention of their business if you are a regular reader.
But there are lots of fly-by-night, pop-up companies that will just throw gear (crap, often) out there and specifically brand it as "Strobist Gear."
It's not. They're just hoping you'll think their mystery-meat, zero-warranty stuff has been vetted and highly endorsed!
Nope.
And please, do not infer any type of association with these types of outlets. I obviously would not trust them as far as I could throw them.

Lighting 101 To Go
UPDATE: Thanks to generous readers with mad skills, new languages are becoming available for this Lighting 101 download. See bottom of post for current availability.

Over the years Lighting 101 had been ported to a portable document format (PDF) in several different languages. But those documents were from the version originale, which was circa 2006. In 2013 Lighting 101 was completely revised, top to bottom, to be more in-depth with more updated info and featuring the photographic work of Strobist's readers.
Now the most current version has been ported to PDF (in three languages so far!), for your offline viewing pleasure.Read more »

A Note to Mobile Phone Browsers/Readers
Please note that for the time being I had to turn off Strobist's default mobile template for phone browsers.
The mobile template was not compatible with the new archive-facing site transition. I do understand this gives a non-optimal view for some, and for that I apologize.
So, if you have bookmarked the mobile version of the site and are viewing it thusly, you'll probably henceforth see a confusing hodgepodge of list posts. You should navigate to the non-mobile version, and bookmark that site.
Thanks very much,
David
